This study expanded the Teacher Homework Involvement Scale (THIS) by adding competence and relatedness dimensions grounded in Self Determination Theory to assess middle school students’ perceptions of teacher support during homework. The five-dimensional structure was validated with two independent samples of Turkish middle school students, and the scale demonstrated high reliability. Results revealed significant associations between teachers’ autonomy, competence, and relatedness support and students’ homework motivation, effort, completion, expectancy, and value. The scale offers researchers a practical tool for assessing teachers’ support for students’ psychological needs and informs strategies to enhance supportive teaching practices. Overall, the expanded THIS is a valid and reliable measure of multidimensional teacher support.
